Annual Report 2010

Board of directors’ report 2010

Schibsted Media Group is a Scandinavian media group headquartered in Oslo. Although most of its activities are linked to Norway and Sweden, the Group has operations in 31 countries.

Schibsted aims to be the most attractive media group in Europe. In order to fulfil Schibsted’s ambitions, the Group has organized its operations in two strategic pillars. One is the large media houses that Schibsted has established in its core markets. These have sound positions and strong brands in various channels. From traditionally being focused on printed news, the editorial offices have expanded into producing content for new platforms such as the internet, mobiles and tablets. This also strengthens the position the media houses have towards the advertisers. The second strategic pillar is online marketplaces and classified ads services. Schibsted has market-leading, profitable operations in a number of categories in Norway, Sweden, Spain and France. Based on successful concepts in its core markets, online classified ads services have been established outside the Group's core markets.

In order to help achieve its strategic goals, Schibsted is systematically mapping and further developing the expertise in all its companies. Management development, continuous improvements, sales and market insight are all key elements in the Group’s expertise-development work.

Schibsted delivered a record operating profit in 2010. This good result was due to improved advertising markets, hard work on measures to improve profitability throughout the Group and growth in both the media houses and online classified ads services.
