Sondre has been the CEO of regional media house Bergens Tidende (BT) since January 2009.
Familiar face
Sondre is a familiar face to a lot of people at Aftenposten from 2003 and 2004, when he as a consultant from McKinsey was hired to participate in a big strategy project and then the project group that was responsible for converting Aftenposten’s morning issue to tabloid format. In 2007 he became one of Schibsted’s directors an acted as Project Leader for the establishment of Media Norge, which gave him inside knowledge about the entire Aftenposten media house. From January to October 2008 he was CFO and CEO of regional media house Stavanger Aftenblad.
Sondre holds an MSc in finance from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) and has also studied finance at the National University of Singapore.
- Exciting position
Sondre is very excited to take the helm as Aftenposten’s CEO.
- In my opinion this is one of the most exciting positions you can find in the Norwegian media industry. Aftenposten is a fantastic media house that has gone through an impressive development in the last years. I truly look forward to continue this work, and based on Aftenposten’s brand, market position and competent staff I am very optimistic about the further development, Sondre says.
- At the same time, I hold very high ambitions about the position that I believe Aftenposten should have and what we shall accomplish in the next years. That requires that we have to be even better at both editorial and commercial digital developments, which may require organizational changes. However, I will spend time initially at getting to know the organization well before pointing out areas of change and priority, Sondre adds.

Based on his experience and the results he has shown as Bergens Tidendes’s CEO I am confident that he is the right person to lead Aftenposten, says Didrik Munch, the Chairman of Aftenposten’s Board and also the CEO of the Media Norge group that Aftenposten belongs to.
Sondre Gravir will start in his new position at Aftenposten on January 1, 2012.
