VG + world’s best on iPad

Competing with the world’s leading media houses VG+ was awarded the best iPad edition when the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) handed out prizes in Vienna last night.

Norwegian media house VG’s iPad edition has won the prestigious competition “XMA Cross Media Awards” that rewards the media houses that have come up with the best and most innovative multimedia products throughout the year.

Best of show

VG+ scored highest in front of among others the Sunday Times from the UK, Die Welt from Germany and Bloomberg News from the US. Aftenposten was voted number eight.

Here is what the jury, which consisted of media personalities such as the newspaper and iPad guru Mario García and Rodger Findley from Reynolds Journalism Institute in the US, said about VG+ in its verdict:

“VG from Norway gives everything we want in a new iPad app: The expansion of the brand that provides recognition combined with additional material that make the most out of this new and great platform; great use of images, simple and distinctive design, multimedial and different genres – in our opinion: BEST of show. These people know what they’re doing!”

Great recognition

- This is wonderful. According to the jury’s verdict we have the highest score on content, and therefore this is a great recognition of the work of everybody who produces content at the VG media house, says Editoral Manager Espen Olsen Langfeldt at VG Mobil.

VG+ was launched on December 9 last year and became a payment service in June this year. The iPad app has been developed together with the digital agency Agens from Norway.

TV guide praised

VG Mobil’s iPad and iPhone TV guide application “VGs TV-guide” also received a prize. Hence, VG was the only media house that received two awards.

“Totally unique. Great ideas, practical and functional”, said the jury’s verdict.

- We are very happy to receive these recognitions for all the work that we put into our products, and it inspires us to keep up the good work in the future as well, says Tor Jacobsen, CEO at VG Mobil.
